Hey Pups! Today I wanted to cover some quick first aid tips as well as important signs you may need to see a doctor after a pup play related joint injury.
Puppy play can be rough at times and falling onto a joint the wrong way is easy to do. If you have sustained a sprain or joint injury the key to first aid it RICE:
R- Rest the joint
I – Apply Ice to the joint. 20 minutes on then 20 minutes off. This is great for pain and swelling
C – Compression. A firm bandage or neoprene compression support can help reduce pain and swelling
E – Elevate the joint to help reduce swelling
Important signs you may require to see a doctor are:
- Significant swelling
- Increasing or severe pain
- Inability to put weight though the joint
- A history of bone issues or other medical problems. (ie Truvada™ use can be associated with increased risk of broken bones)
- If you have any concerns or worries that the injury is not improving.
Remember it will never harm to get an evaluation from a medical professional.
Hugs and tugs,
Gpup Alpha
